Fire safety on site Toolbox Talk
Construction and maintenance work changes fire risk quickly as routes, alarms and combustible loads move. Everyone must know how to raise the alarm and leave without delay.
Key points
- Know the alarm, escape routes, assembly point and method for calling 999.
- Keep routes, stairs, final exits and fire points clear.
- Control combustible waste and remove it frequently.
- Store fuels and cylinders safely away from ignition and escape routes.
- Use permits and fire watches for hot work.
- Maintain temporary alarms, lighting and extinguishers as the site changes.
- Never fight a fire if it delays escape or puts you at risk.
Do
- Challenge blocked exits.
- Raise the alarm immediately.
- Attend drills and briefings.
Don't

- Do not smoke outside designated areas.
- Do not re-enter until authorised.
