Site housekeeping Toolbox Talk
Good housekeeping is a control for fire, slips, cuts, falling objects and blocked escape. Everyone owns it throughout the shift, not just at the end.
Key points
- Plan storage, waste points and access routes before work starts.
- Return tools and materials to secure storage after use.
- Remove packaging, offcuts and sharp waste as work progresses.
- Keep stairs, fire points, exits and electrical panels clear.
- Stack materials stable, within safe height and away from edges.
- Use designated containers for hazardous and combustible waste.
- Inspect the area at breaks, shift end and handover.
Do
- Tidy as you go.
- Remove protruding nails or place timber in a marked bin.
- Challenge unsafe storage.
Don't
- Do not throw waste from height.
- Do not block routes temporarily.
- Do not overfill bins.
Questions to ask the group
- Where does each waste stream go?
- Which routes must remain clear?
- Who completes the closing check?
