Lifting operations Toolbox Talk
A lifting operation must be planned, supervised and carried out safely. No one should be beneath a suspended load or guessing the load weight, centre of gravity or signals.
Key points
- Use a competent person to plan the lift in proportion to risk.
- Confirm load weight, centre of gravity, lifting points and route.
- Select compatible lifting equipment and accessories with adequate capacity.
- Check identification and thorough-examination status.
- Set outriggers on suitable ground and establish an exclusion zone.
- Use competent operators and signallers with agreed signals.
- Stop for loss of communication, unstable load or changed conditions.
Do
- Inspect accessories before use.
- Use tag lines where assessed safe.
- Follow the lift plan.
Don't
- Do not stand under a suspended load.
- Do not exceed safe working load.
- Do not improvise lifting points or knots.

- Where is the exclusion zone?
