Method statement for cutting and grinding
A cutting and grinding method statement should identify the material, tool, disc or wheel, work support and dust-control method. Wheel burst, kickback, cuts, sparks, fire, silica or metal dust, noise and vibration are foreseeable hazards. PUWER 1998 requires work equipment to be suitable, maintained and used by people given adequate information, instruction and training. Abrasive-wheel users must be competent to select, inspect and fit the correct wheel at its permitted speed. Secure the workpiece and keep guards and auxiliary handles fitted. Use on-tool extraction or wet methods appropriate to the material, check for hidden services, control the spark direction and apply hot-work arrangements wherever sparks could reach combustible material.
